The focus in PE is personal, lifelong fitness skills. Each student spends time outside in the park playing organized sports and learning/ practicing specific sport related skills, as well as time in the classroom learning about health management. Activity days are designed so that all students warm-up with calisthenics and at least a ½-mile jog. Students create their own personal fitness goals (Weight loss, Increased Strength, Muscle toning, Decreased Time Running the Mile, etc.). Each student meets with their coach for an individual assessment of their personal goals and plans together a nutritional and exercise plan to continue to meet their goals.

KCCHS offers the following organized sports: cross-country, soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, wrestling, and track & field. The school’s varsity soccer team has won the Frontier League championships twice and in track & field a student won the District 110 meter hurdles.

King-Chavez Preparatory Academy is committed to making sure that all children learn the importance of wellness through physical education and sports instruction. We strive to make these experiences for our students an exciting and positive one. Our program is designed to ensure that every child gets involved in physical activities weekly. Participation in sports offers unique opportunities to promote self-discipline, improve self-image, and encourage a healthy sense of competition while working as a team. Developing these principles and promoting character development leads to academic, athletic, personal, social, and career success. A variety of sports and physical activities are organized throughout the year by skill and grade level to give every student a chance to play,  grow as an athlete, and improve his or her physical and social skills. The ultimate objective of our program is to include everyone while teaching sportsmanship and having fun.

At KCAE, we believe that we have a responsibility to ensure that we are helping our students to develop into healthy, well-rounded individuals. We believe that necessary in that endeavor is supporting our students through acquiring healthy habits. We are fortunate to have a staff member dedicated to leading students of all grades through physical education activities a couple of times each week. Through this experience, students not only get to be active, but they also learn about the health benefits that this type of activity has on their physical health while also reinforcing sportsmanship and collaboration.

For those students that are interested, we offer additional opportunities to continue developing athletically in a more competitive environment. During each after school club cycle throughout the year, at least one team sports opportunity is offered to both male and female students where they are given the chance to compete against teams from other schools throughout San Diego County. For many of our students, this is their first venture into organized, team sports.

For several years now, KCAE has been the home of one of the top Colorguard teams in southern California. Despite the fact that the KCAE team has consisted of quite a few elementary school students over the years, the team has held its own against other established middle school programs throughout the region. In 2018-2019, the team earned an impressive bronze medal in the middle school division. We can’t wait to see what the team has in store for 2019-2020!
